Fans of classic space anime have new music to enjoy. The latest chapter of Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199 has released its ending theme song along with a lyric music video. Chapter 5 premiered in Japan on February 20, and the ending song is already available on digital platforms.
The ending theme is titled “Persona” and is performed by well-known voice actor Megumi Ogata. Alongside the chapter’s theatrical release, a lyric video featuring scenes from the anime has been uploaded online. The video lets fans listen to the full song while watching emotional and dramatic moments from the series.
Megumi Ogata is famous for voicing major anime characters, including Shinji Ikari in Neon Genesis Evangelion and Yuta Okkotsu in Jujutsu Kaisen. Her powerful voice and emotional singing style make “Persona” stand out as a strong ending theme. She also wrote the song’s lyrics herself under a pen name, sharing that she wanted the music to feel bold and different from past Yamato songs.
According to her comments, the production team asked for a hard-hitting rock track instead of a slow ballad. The goal was to create a song that would “break” the image of Yamato in a positive way, showing a fresh direction for the long-running franchise. Ogata said she poured her heart into both writing and singing the song to express love for the series and its characters.
Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199 is a remake project inspired by earlier Yamato works. The 3199 series is based mainly on the 1980 film Be Forever Yamato and also includes elements from the third original TV series. The new project is planned as a seven-chapter theatrical release with a total of 26 episodes.
The story takes place in the year 2207. After peace seems to return, a massive object called the “Grand Reverse” suddenly appears and attacks Earth. Enemy forces quickly take control of the capital. In response, the former Yamato crew is secretly called back into action. They must begin another dangerous journey to save humanity once again.
The fifth chapter carries the subtitle “The Incandescent Galactic War,” hinting at intense battles and emotional struggles. The next installment, Chapter 6, has already been scheduled for a Japanese theatrical release on June 26, 2026. This shows that the series is continuing steadily toward its planned conclusion.
The anime is produced by studio MOTHER with support from Satellite, and features music by Akira Miyagawa and other composers. The project continues the legacy of the original creator, Yoshinobu Nishizaki, while bringing modern animation techniques to the classic space saga.
International fans can also watch the series. Crunchyroll is streaming the first 14 episodes in several countries, making it easier for global viewers to follow the story.
With the release of “Persona” and its lyric music video, Chapter 5 has added even more excitement to the Yamato universe. The new ending theme blends strong rock energy with emotional storytelling, showing that the franchise is still evolving while honoring its history. Fans now look forward to both the next chapter and more music surprises in the future.
