The anime industry is growing faster than ever, and fans around the world are always excited to know what shows are coming next. After a massive lineup of anime in 2025 and 2026, the upcoming years are already shaping up to be huge for anime lovers. Many studios have already confirmed new seasons of popular anime, while several brand-new anime projects are also in development.
Anime events like Jump Festa, Anime Expo, and official studio announcements have revealed many projects that are expected to release around 2027 and even 2028. From big shonen franchises to fresh original stories, the future anime lineup looks extremely promising.
Here is a detailed look at some of the most anticipated upcoming anime expected to arrive in the next few years.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Steel Ball Run Anime
One of the most anticipated anime adaptations in recent years is JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Steel Ball Run. Fans of the JoJo franchise have been waiting for this part to get an anime adaptation for a long time.
Steel Ball Run takes place in an alternate universe and follows Johnny Joestar, a former horse racing prodigy who becomes paralyzed after a tragic accident. His life changes when he meets Gyro Zeppeli, a mysterious racer with incredible abilities.
Together they enter the legendary Steel Ball Run race, a dangerous cross-country competition across the United States. However, the race is not just about winning prize money, as hidden secrets and powerful enemies appear along the journey.
As the story progresses, Johnny and Gyro uncover a dangerous conspiracy behind the race. Because the story is long and complex, the anime adaptation could span multiple seasons and potentially continue into 2027 or beyond.
Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Movie Trilogy
Another major anime project that will continue in the coming years is Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba. After the huge success of the previous seasons and movies, the final arc of the story is being adapted into a movie trilogy.
This arc focuses on the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the powerful demon king Muzan Kibutsuji. The Infinity Castle arc is widely considered one of the most intense and emotional parts of the entire series.
The trilogy will feature epic battles involving Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and the remaining Hashira as they face the strongest demons in the series. While the first movie has already been announced, the full trilogy will likely release over several years and could extend into 2027.
Fans expect these movies to become some of the biggest anime film releases ever.
One Punch Man Season 3 and Future Seasons
One Punch Man is another anime that fans have been waiting to see return. The third season is finally in production and will adapt the popular Monster Association arc from the manga.
This arc introduces many powerful villains and expands the world of heroes. One of the biggest highlights is the story of Garou, a powerful fighter known as the Hero Hunter.
As Garou grows stronger and fights multiple heroes, the conflict between heroes and monsters becomes even more dangerous. Eventually fans will also see the legendary battle between Saitama and Garou.
Depending on the pacing of the adaptation, the story may continue into future seasons that could release around 2027 or later.
Dandadan Future Seasons
Dandadan quickly became one of the most popular new anime series after its debut. The anime combines supernatural elements, action, comedy, and romance in a unique way that captured the attention of anime fans worldwide.
The story follows two teenagers who become involved in strange battles involving aliens, ghosts, and other supernatural creatures.
Because the manga continues to release new chapters and has gained massive popularity, future seasons of Dandadan are very likely to happen. If the anime continues its success, fans could see additional seasons arriving around 2027.
Mashle Magic and Muscles Season 3
Mashle Magic and Muscles is another anime that became very popular thanks to its comedy and action. The series takes place in a magical world where everyone has magical powers except for the main character Mash Burnedead.
Instead of magic, Mash relies on incredible physical strength to defeat his opponents and survive at a prestigious magic academy.
Future seasons are expected to continue adapting the manga storyline, including bigger battles and important revelations about Mash’s origins. If the anime continues adapting the full story, later seasons could appear around 2027.
Kaiju No. 8 Future Seasons
Kaiju No. 8 quickly became one of the most talked-about modern action anime. The story follows Kafka Hibino, a man who dreams of joining the Defense Force to fight giant monsters known as kaiju.
However, Kafka unexpectedly gains the ability to transform into a powerful kaiju himself. This creates a dangerous secret that he must hide while still protecting humanity.
The manga has been extremely successful, and the anime adaptation has received strong support from fans. Because the story is still ongoing, multiple future seasons are expected, potentially extending into 2027 or 2028.
New Original Anime Projects
Besides sequels, several studios are also working on completely new anime projects. Original anime often bring fresh ideas, unique characters, and creative storytelling that cannot be found in manga adaptations.
One upcoming project attracting attention is an original anime film called Ghost, directed by Shingo Natsume and produced by Madhouse. The film is scheduled for release in 2027 and is already generating excitement among anime fans.
Another project, Grow Up Show Himawari no Circus-dan, is being produced by Aniplex and A-1 Pictures. This anime focuses on a group of performers working in a circus and is expected to deliver emotional storytelling and beautiful animation.
These original anime projects show that studios are still investing in new ideas alongside major franchises.
Possible Anime Releases Around 2028
Although many anime have not yet received official release dates, several popular franchises are expected to continue into 2028.
For example, Black Clover is likely to return with more anime episodes after the success of its recent movie. Fans are also hoping to see more seasons of Solo Leveling as the adaptation continues to gain global popularity.
Another possibility is the continuation of Boruto and other Naruto universe projects. Since the Naruto franchise remains one of the most successful anime series in history, new content will likely continue for many years.
Studios like MAPPA, CloverWorks, and A-1 Pictures are also constantly announcing new anime projects, so the future lineup will likely expand even more.
The Future of Anime Looks Very Bright
The anime industry continues to grow globally, with millions of fans watching new shows every year. Streaming platforms have also played a major role in expanding anime’s popularity by making new series easily accessible worldwide.
With massive franchises returning, exciting new anime being developed, and talented studios pushing animation quality even further, the next few years will be an incredible time for anime fans.
From epic action stories and fantasy adventures to emotional dramas and unique original projects, the upcoming anime lineup for 2027 and 2028 promises something for everyone.
